Download on the App StoreYou don't type your SolarEdge password here. You generate an API key in the monitoring portal, paste it into Cenit with your Site ID, and that's it. The key is yours and Cenit only uses it to read. It's four steps and each one is below.
What you need
Your system already in the SolarEdge portal
Your inverter has to be sending data to SolarEdge. If you can see your production in the mySolarEdge app, you're set.
The site owner's account
The key comes from monitoring.solaredge.com, on a computer, signed in as the owner. If your installer set up the account and you can't sign in as the owner, ask them to generate the key for you.
How to connect it, step by step
- Sign in to the monitoring portal. Open monitoring.solaredge.com on a computer and sign in with the site owner's account.
- Generate your API key. Go to
Admin → Site Access → Access Control → API Access. Accept the terms, click Generate Key and copy the key. On some accounts the Site Access tab may show up as Plant Access. - Find your Site ID. It's the number in the portal's address bar, in
.../site/SITEID/. If you can't find it, leave it blank. Cenit looks it up from your key. - Paste it into Cenit. Open Cenit, pick SolarEdge from the brand list, paste the API key and the Site ID, and tap Connect.
The key comes with 300 calls a day, and that quota is yours. That's why Cenit checks every 15 minutes, not every 5. If a day's calls run out, Cenit tells you.
If you're an installer
Make one key for your whole company under Account Admin → Company Details → API Access, then Generate Key. Paste that key into Cenit and leave the Site ID blank. Cenit asks which site to open and shows the rest under All plants, with their production and a flag on any site SolarEdge has an open alert for.
Three plants are free for good, and the first month every plant is open. After that you pay depending on how many you watch. The prices are in the questions below.
What you see in Cenit
The whole system, not each panel
Even if your optimizers measure every panel, SolarEdge's public API only gives the total for the site. So with SolarEdge you see what all your panels make together. Cenit's panel-by-panel view is for brands that report it, like NEP, Hoymiles and APsystems.
Today against your best days
Drag your finger along today's curve to see what the system was making at any hour. The dashed line behind it is the most it made at that time of day over the last two weeks. A sunny day that comes in under it means something changed.
What the panels save you
Tell Cenit what you pay per kWh and what you get for power you send to the grid, and it works out about how much your panels saved you this month and this year, in your own currency. In the US it can fill in your state's average price, and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC and Virginia it counts your SRECs. In Mexico you get your margin before CFE's DAC tariff instead.
Widgets and alerts
Today's numbers sit on your home screen. Cenit lets you know when the system stops reporting in daylight and when your clear days come in under usual. With one number for the whole system it can't tell dust from shade or a fault, and it says so. Wash the panels first and see if it comes back.
Cenit and mySolarEdge
Cenit isn't made by or affiliated with SolarEdge Technologies. It's an independent app that reads your system with the key you give it. mySolarEdge is the official app, and it's worth keeping.
What Cenit adds
The curve against your best days, a savings number with SRECs where they apply, and widgets. Every site on an installer key in one list. And panels from another brand at another house or at work show up in the same app.
What you still need mySolarEdge or your installer for
Cenit only reads production. The per-panel view, batteries, any consumption your system measures and inverter settings stay in mySolarEdge and the portal. If equipment fails or you need warranty work, that goes through your installer or SolarEdge.
Questions
Where do I find my SolarEdge API key and Site ID?
In monitoring.solaredge.com, signed in with the site owner's account. The API key is under Admin → Site Access → Access Control → API Access, with the Generate Key button. The Site ID is the number in the portal's address bar, in .../site/SITEID/. In Cenit the Site ID is optional, because it can find it from your key.
Is there an alternative to mySolarEdge for iPhone?
Cenit reads your SolarEdge system through the official API and shows whole-system production, today's curve, your savings and home screen widgets. It works alongside mySolarEdge, not instead of it.
Why can't I see each panel?
SolarEdge's public API only gives the total for the site, even if your optimizers measure every panel. Cenit doesn't make up what the API doesn't give. The per-panel view stays in mySolarEdge and the portal.
How much does it cost?
Nothing for a home. Cenit is free for up to 3 plants. Installers who watch more pay once or monthly depending on how many. 4 to 10 plants is 9.99 USD once or 0.99 USD a month. 11 to 49 is 39.99 USD or 3.99 USD a month. 50 or more is 74.99 USD or 7.99 USD a month. The SolarEdge API key itself is free.
Is Cenit made by SolarEdge?
No. Cenit is an independent app by Hrvoje Matošić, made in Mexico, and isn't affiliated with SolarEdge Technologies. Your key is kept in the iOS Keychain and only goes to SolarEdge's servers. If something isn't working, write to me at privacidad@hrvojematosic.com.
